Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6
  • Red Hat Satellite Capsule 6

Issue

  • Red Hat Capsule synchronization failed with the below error error

    Faraday::ConnectionFailed no address for capsule.example.com (Resolv::ResolvError) 
    

Resolution

  • Configure the necessary DNS entries to enable the resolution of the hostname.
  • Verify the full forward and reverse DNS resolution using a fully qualified domain name to prevent issues while installing Red Hat Satellite as per the Satellite Documentation.

Root Cause

  • DNS entries for the respective capsule.example.com was missing.
  • As per the recommendations in the Satellite Documentation the DNS should be confirmed and make sure the FQDN is being resolved.

Diagnostic Steps

  • Execute the following command to confirm that DNS can resolve the hostname entries specified in /etc/hosts

    # ping -c3 hostname
    # getent hosts hostname
