Import from the Workflow Builder

Import a workflow from a JSON file to restore a backup, reuse a shared workflow, or promote a workflow across environments.

Before you begin

  • You have permission to manage workflows in the project.

Procedure

  1. Do one of the following:
    • If no workflow is currently open on the canvas:
      1. Click the Workflow Builder icon in the navigation sidebar.
      2. Click the options menu (⋮) in the upper right of the toolbar.
      3. Select Import workflow.
      4. Select the JSON file from your local machine.
    • If a workflow is already open on the canvas:
      1. Click the options menu (⋮) in the upper right of the toolbar.
      2. Select Import workflow.
      3. Select the JSON file from your local machine. A confirmation dialog displays.
      4. Select Import as new workflow to create a separate workflow, or Import into current workflow to overwrite the canvas with the imported definition.
      5. Click Import. If you have unsaved changes and selected Import into current workflow, a warning displays before the import proceeds.
  2. Review the import results.

After importing, automation orchestrator validates the file and displays one of the following outcomes:

    • Successful import: The workflow loads onto the canvas with all steps, edges, and layout positions intact. A confirmation message indicates that the import succeeded.
    • Failed import: The import fails if the file is not a valid workflow definition. An error message displays a description of the issue. Select a different file or a corrected version of the file to try again.

Results

  • The imported workflow is displayed on the canvas with all steps and connections intact.
